Thank you for your suggestion. I agree that beginners can get lost with all the options. Maybe a would be good to leave the basics and guide the user on how to use the more advanced features.
We don't mean to be deceptive. On the contrary, we want you to use Conqu as much as you want for free.
As a "premium" feature, we offer a service, the syncing over the cloud, backup, etc, which requires server and human resources to run. It isn't really much different from other software as a service.
I assumed you are taking about ConquSync, since you mention the paid version.
But if you are talking about the permissions asked in the phone, for example, we only ask for things like contacts to be able to show contact information in the sharing section (which is not yet available).
We would never access user data without the user's permission. In order to have a centralized place to store the data, the system needs to access it. We use the same kind of system that Evernote and many others use.
Can you give us more information? The downloads page seems alright, but we might be missing something.
